The mountain to the left is the base of Mt. Hekla. When I stepped out of the car to take this photo, the temperature was around 6C/42F with high winds
We landed in Iceland at 6:30am August 18 and checked into our hotel at Hotel Fron at 8am just before the downtown streets were shut down for the annual Culture Night festival. We basically spent the day wandering around, looking at various shops. Reykjavik seems to have a ton of restaurants, and today, they all seemed to be very crowded. We ended up at Italia, an Italian restaurant that made really good wood-fired pizzas. After dinner, we wandered around some more and eventually ended up at the outdoor concert area. We listened to the first performer then headed back to our hotel for a little while. Later on, we walked back out to the harbor and watched the fireworks display. The fireworks only lasted about 10-15 minutes, but it was an amazing display. By chance we ended up sitting right in front of the fireworks barge. Unfortunately, I only took photos with my iPod (now lost), so I only have one picture of that display.
