  • 5/22 - This is Elk Meadow, with a number of trails for hikers and mountain bikes (LOTS of people biking). We ended up hiking much further than we intended when we tried to take a short-cut on a service road, which would have worked except the way back to the trails were closed off for meadow restoration. We ended up hiking several extra miles, but it was a nice day. Here you can see clouds building off in the distance.

  • This rather unimpressive topographical view is Elk Meadow Park, where we hiked that Sunday afternoon. This was mostly a level hike to acclimatize ourselves (me) to the higher altitude. The level part of the meadow area is at about 7700 ft elevation.

  • The bath was on the main level past the kitchen, with a tub in the middle and a gas stove for heat. There is a cedar closet to the right of the stove.

  • (5/21) Here is a topographical view (more Google Earth) of the drive between Evergreen, CO and the cabin we stayed at. As you can see, it was in a nice little valley. The road followed Bear Creek through the valley.

  • Roger and I started off our road trip by flying into Denver, CO on 5/21/2011. We reserved a "small SUV" similar to a Ford Escape or Toyota RAV 4. Unfortunately, the rental agency did not have any small SUVs, only full sized ones. We ended up with a Chevrolet Traverse AWD. After a quick stop at Bass Pro Shop/ Outdoor World to shop (better selection than the one in Duluth), we made our way to Evergreen CO.
